Clocked: Slave patrols, Amanda Seales, Black Scotland, Juicy J(azz) and CRWNMAG Turns Ten
Agent Orange sent the slave patrol to DC, the internet loves Amanda Seales again, the kinfolk discovered the Black people in Scotland, Rihanna’s husband was in a Spike Lee joint, Juicy J dropped a jazz album and CRWNMAG turned 10 today.
Ten Years
A decade ago we hustled our very first zine into 500 hands at Afropunk in Brooklyn — no ads, no machine, just us and the work. Ten years later, we’re still here, still growing with you. Over the next couple weeks we’ll share more about how this all came to be. For now: gratitude.
Slave Patrols
Agent Orange stayed on brand — federalized the D.C. police and set them loose like it’s still 1865, harassing residents block by block. How many times we gon’ recycle the same playbook before we call it what it is — slave patrol 2.0?
Amanda Seales ran through 20 Black Conservatives
Sis found her format. Went head-to-head with a lineup of ahistorical raccoons and made stew out of the whole panel. She flip flopped on her previous position on the divisiveness of making a cultural distinction for ADOS and kinfolk rejoiced.
Black Scotland
Yes, Black folks are everywhere — but hearing a Scottish brogue wrap around our slang hits different. It’s a reminder that the diaspora is wide, layered, and everywhere we go, there we are.
Highest 2 Lowest
Spike and Denzel still command respect, but let’s be honest — most of us will catch it once it hits the stream.
Caught Up In This Illusion
Juicy J took a page from Andre 3000’s flute chronicles and dropped a jazz instrumental project. And we’re not mad at it. Played it while making focaccia the other night — smooth, unexpected, no skips needed.
Beloved!!! A whole decade! We give thanks!
congrats on ten years | glad my home on MXB was a space to help get CRWN out during that afropunk weekend ✨✨✨✨
